I decided that I'd like to share with you all something that I'm currently enjoying listening to, every fourth Sunday of the month. The only rule for selection is that it has to be new to my ears - it doesn't matter how recently it was actually created, but you can rely on most weeks being something fairly recent. I'm not reviewing them - just simply sharing what I like about them - hope you can also take something away from this music =)
I'm starting off with 'MODULAR' by Matt Chamberlain, Viktor Krauss, and Dan Phelps, released in 2011. I recently discovered this album on Bandcamp (where it has done particularly well!) and we're getting along really nicely. As I write this, my partner just poked her head into the office and asked if I was listening to post-rock legends Mogwai, and she's got a point - Mogwai are one of my favourite all-time bands and it's singed with that kind of sound; also reminiscent of many of the jazz / prog-rock / ambient fusion outfits that I've followed - all the while glittered here and there with Eastern influences melodically and percussively. The result is a set of tracks that have a steady, really satisfying continuous groove and momentum, and a really powerful,, melancholic and uplifting record. There are still copies of the vinyl available (limited run of 1000) for $25USD or more (name your price) and the digital album is available at name your price. You can also stream it, but do of course buy it if it pleases your ears! Check it out at: https://oceanographicrecords.bandcamp.com/album/modular
