playthings
for 12 or more performers with toy instruments or concert instruments
2019
A journey between noise and pitch, dispersion of sound vs. unified sound, the delicacy of the sound vs. the juvenility of the objects/actions; individuality vs. collectiveness; the relationships between entries of sounds; the acoustic environment and the experience of “silence”; a liberation and celebration of sounds that result from "poor quality" instruments and their “deficiencies”, or in the case of concert instruments, an approach which imagines them as toys / unfamiliar objects; a meditation destabilised by glitch; an invitation for anyone willing and able, regardless of musical training, to deeply explore the sonic potential of an object.
The audio here is of the original 19-minute version. The revised longer version will be released on my debut album in 2021.
